BROADCAST MASSES AND RECONCILIATION

ST. LINUS PARISH BULLETIN - AUGUST 9, 2020 (PDF)

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION - We will offer time for Adoration in church on Tuesday, August 11 from 6 pm to 8 pm. Pre-registration will not be needed for this, however every person will have to sign-in. And as always, masks and social distancing will be necessary.

SACRAMENT OF RECONCILIATION - EVERY SATURDAY AT 12 NOON - Confessions will be in the church lobby, one at a time, with face masks required. Penitents will not have access to the church. In the near future the time of Reconciliation will have to be altered as we often have Saturday funerals.

BROADCAST MASSES - The Archdiocese of Chicago is posting a Daily Broadcast Mass on their website - CLICK HERE. Also, you may watch the daily Mass on the ETWN Website - CLICK HERE or on the Relevant Radio Website - CLICK HERE at 12 Noon.

PRAYER FOR SPIRITUAL COMMUNION - My Jesus, I believe that you are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love you above all things, and I desire to receive you into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive you sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace you as if you were already there and unite myself wholly to you. Never permit me to be separated from you. Amen.

LATEST RE-OPENING UPDATE FROM FATHER WALTER

JULY 28, 2020

Hello again!! - I hope all of you are happy and well. I realize these have been difficult days and it seems that they will continue for a while. At St. Linus we have been able to resume confessions, baptisms, funerals, and Sunday Mass at 8 am and 10 am. Every liturgical event requires following strict protocols which is the reason for the slow opening. We still should be conscious of social distancing when possible. The obligation for Sunday mass continues to be suspended at the direction of Cardinal Cupich. Yet, I understand the desire to get back to Mass and Church, which many people have mentioned to me.

Going forward:

  • I would like to open at least one weekday mass. Beginning Thursday, August 6 we will resume a once a week Thursday mass at 7:30 am. Pre-registration will be necessary for this initial mass. Like all other masses; masks, social distancing, and hand sanitizing will be required. Sign-up for this mass will begin Thursday, July 30.
  • I have met with parishioners who would like to offer a time for Eucharistic Adoration. We will offer time for Adoration in church on Tuesday, August 11 from 6 pm to 8 pm. Pre-registration will not be needed for this, however every person will have to sign-in. And as always, masks and social distancing will be necessary.
  • Our school is scheduled to reopen in August with many protocols in place. It will be a different year for sure, but our teachers, staff, and parents are preparing well. I am confident in our school procedures, and that we will have a successful opening.
  • Religious Education for public school students will be done virtually for the most part. The use of the Cardiff Center for in person instruction will remain a possibility.
  • Regarding the Cardiff center, the reopening will be slow, as I have to be able to guarantee protocols are followed strictly by everyone who occupies the facility.
  • At some point in the autumn season, if Covid numbers do not rise, I will offer a brief evening of reflection simply to be together and hopefully to inspire one another.

Three other points:

  • The Archdiocese requested every parish have a Summer Mission offering, but gave us latitude in how to do satisfy that request. So, my suggestion is, if you benefitted spiritually from a media outlet during the pandemic, a donation to them might be appropriate. (Just a suggestion).
  • As part of the reopening of our school, we had to purchase a start-up kit, at the value of just over $3,000. So, if anyone is looking for a donation offering??
  • Lastly, but certainly not least, the health of Fr. Cook has deteriorated greatly in the last months. He is currently residing at a nursing facility in Arlington Heights. Please pray for him!!

Be safe!!
Fr. Mark Walter - Pastor of St. Linus Parish

  4. Only those registered are allowed to enter. No walk up registrations.
  5. You must wear a mask that you provide at all times.
  6. Trained volunteers will greet you. Hand sanitizer will be provided as you enter.
  7. You will be directed to specific seating.
  8. Do not move from the assigned seat and follow the directions of the usher/greeters at all times.
  9. Hymnals have been removed. You must take home any books you bring to assist your prayer.
  10. Collection baskets will not be passed. Offerings may be left by the doors as you arrive or leave (or you may donate through GiveCentral).
  11. You will receive direction at Communion time.
  12. At the end of Mass you will be directed as how to leave the building. No congregating in the church, vestibules, or outside the church is allowed.

These directions are from the Archdiocese of Chicago and we must follow them in order to open the churches and to keep everyone as safe as possible.

PARISH OFFERTORY SUPPORT DURING CLOSURE - You can use our Parish Online Giving - GiveCentral to submit your contributions. Also, The Archdiocese has created an online giving page to support parishes during this time. Donors are able to make an online donation at www.archchicago.org/offertory and designate to OUR Parish - ST. LINUS. You may also place your envelopes in the mail slot of the door of the Parish Office.

It is critically important that our parishes and pastors receive the offertory support they need to remain operational and sustainable despite the suspension of weekly Masses. The Archdiocese has developed a universal online offertory page where the faithful can make an offertory donation to any parish in the Archdiocese. These donations will assist the parishes with ongoing expenses related to ministry, maintenance, staff and other pressing needs, that depend on regular offertory support from parishioners. I encourage you to contribute online to your parish at or above your usual offertory amount. Many of our parishes are suffering significant financial hardship during this challenging time. Your online support will make a critical difference.

Additionally, as we are sensitive to the financial hardship suffered by many in recent days, we have also launched a Coronavirus Emergency Fund. This fund will support members of our community who have been negatively affected by the pandemic. For example, the fund will support parents of Catholic school students who might struggle with tuition payments because of unexpected job loss, ministries providing the needy with sustenance or parish communities deeply harmed by the pandemic. Our neighbors down the street and across the Archdiocese need our support at this critical moment. Your donation can help provide them with that support.

Please visit www.archchicago.org/coronavirus/donate to support parish offertory, the Coronavirus Emergency Fund or both as your means allow. Your generosity is needed now more than ever. Our Archdiocese community has always come together to support one another during times of need, and I ask you to do so again. Please continue to pray for each other, as I continue to pray for you.

ARCHDIOCSEAN RESOURCES - Please pray for each other, and for all those affected by this virus. Check this website homepage and the Archdiocesan website www.archchicago.org/coronavirus for more information and updates.

“This was not a decision I made lightly,” said Cardinal Cupich. “The Eucharist is the source and summit of our life as Catholics. And our schools and agencies provide essential services to many thousands across Cook and Lake Counties. But, in consultation with leaders from across the archdiocese, for the sake of the safety of our students, parishioners, and all the women and men who serve the people of the archdiocese, it is clear that we must take the better part of caution in order to slow the spread of this pandemic.”

May God bless you and your families and Thank You for your understanding!

Thank you visiting the St. Linus Website. St. Linus Parish adheres to the Gospel belief, spoken by Jesus: “Wherever two or three are gathered in my name, I am in the midst of them”. We experience God’s presence in the Holy Scripture, the Sacraments, our community and our service. Welcome All!!
