In the Protoevanglium of James, written in 150 AD, the story of Anne and Joachim is told. They are cured from their infertility with the gift of the child, Mary. In thanksgiving for the gift of their daughter, they brought her, when still a child, to the Temple in Jerusalem to consecrate her to God.
